At the beginning of the restoration of our bell tower, in January 2020, we organized a round-table discussion with qualified guests at the Réfectoire des Cordeliers in Paris; Our aim was simple: to define with them the profound issues that justified the rehabilitation of France’s great religious monuments; Why embark on such an adventure? Why so much effort and sacrifice for an abbey like ours? A duty to remember, an economic necessity for the life of our regions, a sense of history, respect for the works of our elders, etc. The many responses encouraged us to forge ahead with courage;
However, the best reason of all remains the peaceful joy of all visitors, faithful and friends, more and more of whom visit the abbey or spend a few days there; When asked about her reasons for participating in our restoration, one mother had this very touching response: “because it’s my home too.”
So it’s only right that we start restoring the south arm of our transept; It begins in May, after a long wait; In three years’ time, the abbey church will have regained its architectural unity, a larger reception area and greater splendour; More than ever, the abbey will be an oasis of peace, beauty and hope.
We are counting on your help to continue this bold project;
