This autumn, work has resumed on the transept, to complete the preparatory work on the site; Two milestones have given a new dimension to the work area;
First, a plasterboard wall was erected between the choir and the south aisle; In fact, RBMH’s workers quickly knocked down the wall isolating the south arm from the rest of the church; As it stands, this would have put our choir in direct contact with the ruined transept and its restoration; Unthinkable, for us who meet seven times a day to pray the Office and Mass! A new, temporary separation was therefore necessary; So, after relocating the electrical panel to keep it accessible, a wall was erected: twice two layers of plasterboard, enclosing a layer of glass wool; It provides visual, sound and thermal insulation between the construction site and the rest of the church; It also brings the whole community a little closer to this work!
The second major stage in the back-to-school season is the concrete slab; It allows you to have clean soil instead of winter mud; It also provides a flat surface on which to place scaffolding in complete safety; But before the slab could be laid, the ducts had to be installed for the electrical, lighting and sound systems; Once the ducts have been secured, it’s time to lay the slab; Several spinning tops spilled their contents at the foot of the bell tower; Gradually, the floor of the transept regains some twenty centimetres in height, while the workers spread and smooth the concrete;
