Lagrasse Abbey has a number of enclosed garden areas, documented in archives dating back to the Middle Ages; They have been redeveloped since the installation of the canons;
The bible garden is located to the east of the church, south transept and bell tower. Open to all visitors, it includes some thirty biblical plants with signage presenting the texts of the Bible and other data. Designed as a “Renaissance garden”, it also offers a panoramic view of the village of Lagrasse, and is the subject of special tours to present its architecture and its many symbols;
The cloister garden presents a green space inserted in its stone setting. Built during the restoration of the cloister, it is now open to visitors;
The Horte-mage is a large space located in the southern enclosure of the abbey crossed by a béal (irrigation canal) dug by the monks in XIIth century. Since 2014, it has been divided into several gardens under development: a vegetable garden used for the community’s food production; a forest garden; other plots under development (orchard, dovecote…).
Other green spaces are also included in the abbey grounds: plots of vines, almond trees and over two hundred olive trees;
The Fondation de l’Abbaye de Lagrasse supports the development of these gardens;
